Thermostatic Valves

THERMOSTATIC VALVES FAQs

WHAT IS A THERMOSTATIC VALVE?

A Thermostatic Valve is a radiator valve that can be opened and closed and set at different options or numbers, which controls the flow rate of hot water to your radiator. Setting your radiator onto the cool setting or 1 or 2 will decrease the amount of hot water entering your radiator, and in turn will cool your radiator. By opening the valve completely, or setting it to 5, this allows the maximum amount of hot water to enter the radiator, so your radiator will be running at full heat.

WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF HAVING THERMOSTATIC VALVES?

Thermostatic Valves are more efficient than Manual Valves because you can control the temperature of your radiators using them. Installing Manual Valves on your radiators means they will come on, at full power, every time your central heating is on and turn off when it goes off. For rooms you aren’t using this is a waste of energy! Using Thermostatic Valves instead means you can be toasty and warm in the rooms you are using and have the temperature turned down in unoccupied spaces, giving you total control over your heating and saving energy.

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH THERMOSTATIC VALVE TO BUY?

This will depend on your central heating pipework and the pipework connections of your chosen radiator. Side connections will need Angled or Corner Valves, underneath connections Corner Valves or Straight Valves. Not sure?
